IT security specialists are expected to command the biggest salary increases over the next five years, according to a new report. Recruiter, Robert Half spoke to 900 CIO and CTOs worldwide, including some in Australia, with 38 per cent indicating that over the next five years, IT security will have the greatest impact on their companies do business. This was followed by cloud security at 26 per cent. More than two-thirds of Australian CIO and CTOs believed that cloud technology will have the greatest impact on their businesses. “As we move towards faster, more reliable networks, including the rollout of the government’s national broadband network (NBN), there will be greater ability to capture the benefits of working remotely by harnessing improved access to cloud technology, Robert Half’s senior Asia-Pacific, MD, David Jones, said in a statement. Further, 28 per cent of Australian respondents believe networking specialists are expected to receive the biggest salary increases over the next five years – significantly higher than their international peers at 13 per cent. Jones said Australian companies are increasingly looking for highly skilled, permanent and contract professionals for security, networking and business facing roles that not only possess the necessary technical skills, but also strong communication skills and who can engage internal and external stakeholders. According to the report, other areas expected to have an impact on Australian businesses over the next five years include social media (17 per cent of respondents), mobile (5 per cent), and big data (4 per cent).
