The University of Adelaide is seeking a new CIO to lead its 250 person strong technology branch. The university’s inaugural CIO Mark Gregory departs next month to join Flinders University as its vice-president, corporate services. The successful candidate will set the university’s IT strategy, and manage an annual budget of $60 million. Gregory was appointed in 2013, to take charge of the university’s 10-year IT transformation program. That plan included enhanced use of the Blackboard virtual environment and course management system, greater use of software-as-a-service (SaaS) apps, and more support for students using their own devices. Earlier this year, the university turned on its 300 teraflop high performance computing (HPC) system Phoenix, to provide more than 4,300 of its researchers with the computing power they need to crunch large data sets. Gregory’s replacement will be “prepared to take measured risks in leading the university’s response to digital disruption in education delivery, and ensuring its own IT operating model is contemporary and agile,” the job listing posted today read. The successful candidate, the search for which is being aided by KPMG, is expected to have a proven track record in managing large IT functions and delivering significant strategic plans.
