The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) has gone to tender for an integrated SAP system to support its expanding requirements, including a new nuclear medicine facility. ANSTO first implemented the SAP enterprise resource planning application in 2002, primarily as a back office system, and it is not capable of support the agency’s current and future needs, the tender documents said. The agency said a new integrated SAP system will support the new Australian Nuclear Medicine Facility, a $168 million project that is expected to be operational in mid-2016. The test system will need to be in place by October next year, ANSTO said. The new facility will triple Australia’s production of molybdenum-99 (Mo-99), which is made into technetium-99m (Tc-99m) and used at medical facilities to diagnose various diseases. In May, the Federal Government said Australia will soon become a major world supplier of radiopharmaceuticals. The system will support ANTSO’s new organisational transformation program to roll out integrated management and decision making processes over 24 months across the agency. Business planning at ANSTO’s Nuclear Business Organisation and Reactor Operations is currently done manually using Microsoft Excel with data extracts from its existing SAP system. “Integrated supporting systems are therefore required to sustain and enhance efficiency as well as realise productivity gains from IBP (integrated business planning),” ANSTO said in the tender documents. The system will also support workplace planning, asset management, working capital and cash flow management activities, ANSTO said. ANSTO is considering outsourcing support to a single provider or a mix of onsite or offshore arrangements.
