Allens has announced the appointment of Philip Scorgie as its new CIO.

Scorgie joins Allens following three-and-a-half years as the CIO for global law firm, Mayer Brown, in the US.

Prior to his time at Mayer Brown, Scorgie was senior IT consultant at Norton Rose (in Australia, for the APAC region) and prior to that, the CIO for Deacons (in Hong Kong).

Scorgie has also served as director for the Australian Legal Sector Alliance, as well as the director of business information systems for Deacons. During his time in this role, Deacons was acquired by Norton Rose. Scorgie’s international experience also includes a number of software development and engineering roles in Australia, South Africa and Germany.

“Australia is now one of the most competitive and exciting legal markets globally. We have entered a period of real change, and I am excited to join Allens, a firm that puts clients at the centre of its thinking, that is embracing change and the possibilities that new technology brings,” Scorgie said in a statement.

Commenting on the appointment, Allens COO, Rod Fielding, said the firm sees enormous potential in using new technologies to deliver services more effectively and efficiently to its clients.

“Philip [Scorgie] and his team will play a key role in supporting our lawyers to meet the changing needs of our clients,” said Fielding.

Scorgie will commence the new role on May 10 and will be based in Melbourne.
