NSW Health ups CIO ranks with new IT support director

A month after appointing a new CIO for its e-health and IT strategies the NSW Department of Health has appointed a director of strategy and architecture for health support services (HSS) ICT.

Tim Hume has accepted an offer of appointment to the “key position” of director, strategy and architecture with HSS ICT, based in Chatswood, NSW.

Hume will work with HSS ICT CIO, Greg Wells on project planning and implementation of each stage of NSW Health’s ICT Strategy.

New IT leaders will drive the development, implementation and operation of NSW Health’s ICT strategy and network in conjunction with the department’s health networks

According to Dr Tim Smyth, deputy director-general of the health system quality, performance and innovation division at NSW Health, the move is the next step in implementing the realignment of the roles of the department and HSS in relation to NSW Health ICT Strategy, governance and implementation.

Hume has been acting in this role for “some months” and “brings a wealth of diverse ICT and business operations experience with him”, according to Smyth.

He has held corporate IT roles Reckitt and Colman, George Weston Foods and was CIO of the Wine Society from December 2008 to February 2010.

More recently Hume was an associate director in the IT advisory practice of KPMG before taking on his new role in a secondment to NSW Health in September last year.

Before coming to NSW Health Hume spent six month months as acting CIO at Catholic Healthcare Ltd. Hume joins HSS ICT CIO Greg Wells and the new e-health and ICT strategy branch director, Ian Rodgers, who commences his role March 30.

Smyth said the three IT leaders will drive the development, implementation and operation of NSW Health’s ICT strategy and network in conjunction with the department’s health networks and clinical support clusters.
