Australian travel management company, Voyager, has appointed Stuart Hunter to its newly created chief operations officer (COO) role across the company’s three locations in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. Hunter will be charged with managing the operational facets of the business including human resources, procurement, its global distribution systems, SERKO Online, technology and related process upgrades. Voyager chief executive, Richard Savva, said the new hire would add depth to the current team and enable the company to move into new markets and develop new services to travel management and leisure clients. Hunter has both travel and procurement experience in cost management and the development of sourcing and evaluation procedures. Previously, Hunter worked for IBM as senior sourcing specialist where he developed solutions with a focus on cost savings. He also worked with the Commonwealth Bank where he was responsible for the procurement of travel, conferencing, catering and events, with a focus again on cutting costs through a new technology implementation, and at the Asian Development Bank in the Philippines. He began his career in travel with Travelscene American Express where he worked for 10 years.
