St Vincent’s Hospital has confirmed its Sydney IT chief, David Roffe, will be leaving his long-term post to join Macquarie Health as its new general manager of IT.Roffe has headed up IT for St Vincent’s since 1997 – almost 20 years – overseeing many IT initiatives with a focus on electronic medical records (EMR) and healthcare informatics.Roffe is also a committee member of Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) where he serves as NSW Treasurer for the digital health community.“Every day at St Vincent’s we strive to apply the disciplines of engineering, computer science and health informatics to enhance the safety and quality of the care we provided to clients, patients and staff in all our facilities,” his HISA profile reads. Macquarie Health is made up of five physical private hospitals in Sydney, as well as a medical equipment division – Macquarie Medical Systems – which it describes as “the technology arm of Macquarie”. MMS claims to be active in research, design, manufacture and sale of ECG monitoring equipment and other medical products in Australia with worldwide distribution including Europe, China and South-East Asia. Roffe will be starting in the new position in June. CIO Australia has reached out to Roffe and Macquarie Health for comment.
