Former Queensland government CIO, Peter Grant, has joined research firm Intelligent Business Research Services (IBRS) as an advisor. He joins former Australian government CIO, Glenn Archer, on the analyst circuit. Archer joined Gartner as research vice president for its public sector research group in April. Grant said in a statement that IBRS provided him with a unique opportunity to build expertise among Australian CIOs. “The role of the CIO is forever changing – now more than ever. The pressures of technology budgets moving out of traditional IT, of balancing powerful stakeholders, and of rapidly changing economics due to cloud, mobility and consumerisation means that CIOs are more than ever under the gun.” Grant has come back to IBRS stints as a management consultant at VSS Consulting, and adjunct professor at the Queensland University of Technology and Queensland University. Prior to these roles, Grant was the Queensland government’s CIO between December 2011 and May 2013, a position he also held between 2005 and 2008. He previously served as a consultant at IBRS between April 2009 and November 2011. Commenting on Grant’s appointment, IBRS CEO Nick Bowman said few people have a better understanding of the challenges faced by Australian CIOs, the nuances and constraints of policy, culture, skills and technology. Grant does have a lot of experience as an analyst and in CIO roles. He worked at Gartner, was director of IT at Queensland Transport for three years and did a short six-month stint at CIO at Queensland Health in 2007.
