The Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) is on the lookout for a new CIO to drive and manage the strategic direction, development and implementation of its IT services (ITS).

The full-time role was previously held by Michael Creevey, who has been appointed research support and governance manager of the organisation, following a restructure. The CIO will report directly to Creevey.

In addition to overseeing a team of 18 staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and operating a budget of more than $2 million, promote engagement of the ITS team with research and corporate staff and provide IT advice to QIMR senior management, council and the ITS advisory board.

The CIO will also implement strategic plans within three distinct teams: Network infrastructure and operations; records and information services; and innovation and development.

Applicants must have a tertiary qualification in IT, with previous experience in academic research or a science-related environment looked upon favourably.

The position is based in Herston, which is about three kilometres from Brisbane, and has an on-call component.

Applications close 16 April 2012.
