The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has selected former Westpac chief technology officer Sarv Girn as its CIO, after a search that started in May this year.

RBA said the competition for the role was “strong”, with both internal and external applicants.

Girn has previously been executive consultant to the CIO of Qantas, Paul Jones, and has held strategic roles at both Westpac and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, RBA said.

“The role of CIO within the Reserve Bank will provide strategic leadership in transforming and developing the core IT functions that support the Reserve Bank’s policy, operational and corporate objectives,” an RBA statement read.

Michael Hogan previously held the role of CIO of the systems and technology department at RBA.

Girn’s new role will be effective from 3 September this year.
