Google Apps are being favoured over Microsoft Office 365 by a factor of two to one among Australian and New Zealand IT executives, according to a study conducted by Google Apps integrator Cloud Sherpas.

Cloud Sherpas surveyed 233 IT executives and found there was strong support for mobility and cloud computing — 70 per cent of respondents said they are most interested in exploring mobility, with cloud computing at 56 per cent.

The study asked participants why they are interested in the cloud and 68 per cent said it is because of user experience, followed by ease of implementation (57 per cent), industry peers moving to the cloud (14 per cent) and regulatory concerns (10 per cent).

Respondents were least interested in green IT, with only 13 per cent of participants indicating they were interested in it. A recent ICT sustainability benchmark report, commissioned by Fujitsu, surveyed 200 Australian CIOs and senior IT managers and found that Australia is lagging behind the rest of the world in its ICT sustainability performance, and is not meeting the global average in the percentage of IT departments taking responsibility for their organisations’ ICT energy consumption.
