A new Pivotal Labs office in Sydney will be a software innovation hub for Telstra’s enterprise customers, following a new agreement between the companies.

Pivotal Labs is a US-based software firm, which has been credited for shaping the development culture of Silicon Valley brands.

The company claims its agile software development approach will bring start-up speeds, predictable software methodology, and iterative product development culture to Australia’s largest enterprises.

Under the agreement, Telstra’s enterprise customers will use the lab to build next-generation mobile and web applications, the companies said.

Gavin Jones, managing director at Pivotal Australia and New Zealand, said the Sydney office will be one of 16 globally.

“Pivotal’s investment in the region emphasises our commitment to innovation in the Australian tech market,” he said in a statement.

“We are seeing more and more exciting software-driven innovation coming out of Australia. The opening of the Pivotal Labs Sydney office will only accelerate that region-wide innovation momentum.”

Telstra’s COO, Kate McKenzie, added that working with Pivotal extends the telco’s innovation network.

“In conjunction with our new Gurrowa Innovation Lab, Pivotal Labs will enhance our innovation offering for our customers and create a pipeline of skills to grow our development capabilities,” McKenzie said.
