Global financial company Citigroup has appointed Deepak Jain as its new head of operations and technology for the business’ Australia and New Zealand arm.

Jain leaves his acting role of the same title for Citigroup Japan, and prior to joining the company in 2004, was the CIO of the Asia Pacific region for Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, with a focus on application development, support and infrastructure.

Citi Australia and New Zealand chief country officer, Stephen Roberts, said while the operations and technology division is important in all companies, for Citi it was “core”.

“Whether it’s trading securities in offshore markets, managing cross-border corporate cash flows, or sending money home, OT allows Citi clients to do business in 160 countries quickly and securely,” Roberts said in a statement.

Citibank Australia chief executive, Roy Gori, said the company relied on the operations and technology department to meet consumer demand for anywhere banking.
