Westpac Group has appointed Dave Curran as its new CIO. In an announcement to the ASX this morning, Westpac said Curran had been working at the bank since February as a consultant on its core banking technology modernisation program. He will report to chief operating officer John Arthur and sit on the Westpac Group executive team. Arthur said in a statement that the bank had been worked hard to develop the next phase of its technology strategy, which is fundamental to the business achieving its broader goals. “This is why we are now elevating the CIO role to the executive team level,” he said. “Dave has been working with us since February to define this path, and is ideally placed to lead the next phase of technology transformation at Westpac.” Prior to joining Westpac, he spent 10 years in senior technology roles at the Commonwealth Bank. In his most recent role of executive general manager of core banking modernisation, Curran led a team of 1,400 people over five years to transform CBA’s core technology platform, Westpac said. Curran was also the CIO and COO for CBA’s retail banking division and acted as group CIO. He also spent 16 years as a partner at Accenture. Curran will begin his role on September 8. CIO was seeking comment from Curran at press time.
