US technology company Asurion has invested $3.7 million to setup two technical support centres in Victoria, creating 300 jobs in the state. Asurion provides mobile handset insurance protection and extended service plans for retailers and services providers with 280 million customers worldwide. Victorian Premier Denis Napthine and Minister for Technology Gordon Rich-Phillips made the announcement today at the opening of Asurion’s first electronic product protection centre – encompassing a call centre, data services, and support agents – in the Melbourne suburb of Armadale. “This is a growing industry and we are delighted to have been able to partner with Asurion to secure these technical support centres, with the first facility to house 150 workers and to be located in Armadale,” said Dr Napthine. “The second centre will be just as big, if not bigger, at a location that is still being finalised,” he said. Dr Napthine said the investment and associated skills growth supported Victoria’s growing ICT sector. “It’s a great vote of confidence in our economy and the state’s internationally renowned IT industry.” Follow Byron Connolly on Twitter:@ByronConnolly Follow CIO Australia on Twitter and Like us on Facebook… Twitter: @CIO_Australia, Facebook: CIO Australia, or take part in the CIO conversation on LinkedIn: CIO Australia Related content BrandPost Retail innovation playbook: Fast, economical transformation on Microsoft Cloud For retailers, tight integration of data and systems is the antidote to a challenging economy.
