NBN Co has begun publishing a weekly report on its website that for the first time distinguishes between premises passed by fibre and able to connect to the network and those not yet connected. The report – which was previously published quarterly – charts the progress of the rollout and explains where the physical building of the NBN has started, is about to begin, and where services are already available. NBN Co said services are typically not available because they are located in a multi-dwelling unit such as an apartment building or shopping mall. NBN Co chairman Dr Ziggy Switkowski, said in a statement that rollout maps on the NBN Co website will be updated when further areas enter the building stage and the shape of the rollout becomes clearer following the government’s strategic review into the NBN. The latest report for the week ending Sunday October 27, said there were 107,230 premises using the NBN across the fibre, fixed wireless and interim satellite networks. Of these, 40,411 are receiving NBN via fibre to the premises in brownfield communities, with a further 21,801 fibre users in new developments. In brownfield sites, 229,398 premises are passed by fibre optic cable, and of these, 158,712 can order an NBN service. There were also 41,482 satellite and 3506 fixed wireless users, the weekly report said.
