Steve Mayo-Smith is now head of the Digital Technology High Impact Programme (HIP) of the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. The Digital Technology High Impact Programme is a partnership between NZTE, Callaghan Innovation and the NZ Technology Industry Association (NZTech). Mayo-Smith was originally tapped to head the health technology component of the programme. Two weeks ago, his portfolio was expanded to include software as a service (SaaS), Web services, software development, gaming development, post production, animation and mobile technology. The programme targets high growth areas like the United States, South Korea and Australia. It is also working closely with the Kiwi Landing Pad in San Francisco, a facility set up to provide an initial base for New Zealand companies entering the North American market. One of the companies it has hosted was Xero, says Mayo-Smith, who visited the site last week. Prior to this, Mayo-Smith worked as an independent business strategy consultant, and was general manager-technology for Livestock Improvement Corporation, and CIO at Yellow New Zealand, MedTech Global (on contract), Radius Health Group and Auckland District Health Board. He is also a member of the editorial advisory board of CIO New Zealand.
