IAG New Zealand has new CIO

IAG New Zealand has a new CIO, Kevin Angland, who was promoted from head of software solutions at the insurance company. Allan Dornan, IAG CIO for five years, is moving to a new role in the company. In addition Dornan is also a director of Loyalty New Zealand, which operates the Fly Buys loyalty card programme.

IAG is the largest general insurer in New Zealand, and this year has acquired AMI.

Angland says the whole AMI business has around 800 staff which includes 80 to 100 people involved in technology.

#8220;The big challenge going forward will be to integrate or consolidate and rationalise the underlying technology stack that supports the entire IAG business,#8221; says Angland.

He says the process will probably take around two years. #8220;There are two networks, two telephony providers, two datacentre providers so over time, we will need to develop a roadmap that rationalises but also future proofs the wider IAG business,#8221; says Angland, who takes on the top ICT post following a year long stint as head of software solutions and three years as head of business systems at IAG. He has an MBA from tne University of Auckland and his previous roles included programme director and executive manager at Tower Insurance.

IAG is number 34 in this year#8217;s MIS100, the annual report on the largest IT user organisations in New Zealand.

The latest report says IAG has 297 staff managing 5187 screens. Angland says this figure includes the 80 to 100 technology team from AMI, which had around 800 staff.

IAG#8217;s ICT team will also work on a range of products including product and pricing enhancements, a claims system renewal, delivering new e-business capabilities for customers and brokers, and telephony upgrades, according to the MIS100 report.

More ICT executive appointments

Peter Ennis has been appointed as executive director, technology at Al Jazeera Network, based in Doha, Qatar. Prior to this, Ennis was general manager technology at TVNZ. Ennis sits on the executive board of the global company and is responsible for all technology (broadcast, content and IT) across all Al Jazeera Network channels and facilities worldwide.

Andrew Cranna-Powell moves to Auckland University as business manager Science IT, following over a year as manager IT operations at Auckland Transport. He manages a team of over 20 people in the largest faculty in the university.

Peter Yates leaves as IS infrastructure manager of Auckland Council (where he was a finalist for the Emerging ICT Leader of the Year Award at this year#8217;s CIO Summit) and moves to Foster Moore, a registry development company, as the technical services group manager.

Claire Govier has resigned as Vodafone CIO after nearly two years at the telecommunications company, and David Moss, general manager service transformation, is now interim CIO.

Lisa Lightbourne is the new IT manager at Smith and Caughey.

Darren Turner leaves as CTO at APN and moves to New Zealand Post as business and applications support manager with the Innovation and Technology Group.

Andrew Barkla is now president and managing director for SAP New Zealand and Australia.
