THE SOUTHERN CROSS Health Society is a not-for-profit organisation providing health insurance to more than 815,000 members. Over the past year, the organisation has increased investment in innovative technologies as it continues to streamline the business to move more into the digital space.

Use of the society’s online service, ‘My Southern Cross’, more than doubled in 2015 with 108,000 users. Members can use this to view and update contact details, apply for prior approval claims, track claims, and receive policy information online. Now accompanying this is the My Southern Cross mobile app, which allows all members to easily make medical claims on the go, review benefit balances, and functions as a virtual member card.

The electronic claiming service, Easy-claim, was introduced by the not-for-profit four years ago. In 2015, there was a 68 per cent increase in provider numbers in the network. In response to customer demand for easier and faster ways to make claims, Southern Cross will continue to grow and develop this online tool in 2016.

In April, the organisation will have a new Head of Information Systems and Business Transformation, Chris Trigg, who was a CIO at Genesis Energy. He replaces April Walker, who was in the role for 12 years.
