Medibank Private has appointed John Goodall to fill its vacant CIO role.

Formerly the general manager enterprise technology at Sportsbet, Goodall will take up the executive general manager technology and operations role at the private health insurer in November.

He replaces Sarah Harland who left Medibank earlier this year after five months for a CIO position at Suncorp.

Medibank said Goodall’s focus would be on its “core platforms, finalizing the implementation of Project DelPHI and delivering enhanced service outcomes for Medibank’s customers”.

Medibank CEO Craig Drummond said: “I am pleased to have appointed an operational and technical executive with John’s experience”.

Prior to joining Sportsbet in April last year, Goodall spent 20 years at GE Capital including two years as CIO.

Last month, the insurer said a ‘reporting issue’ related to the technology upgrade would prevent it from providing annual tax statements to the majority of its customers by July 15.

In its yearly results last week, the company said it expected Project DelPHI, its new core policy management system, to be fully operational by 2017 despite initial implementation issues.

During the announcement, Drummond said the organisation needs to be easier to deal with and the new core system will be key to improving the customer experience.
