Australian Bureau of Statistics eyes new CIO

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is on the hunt for a new CIO to replace Jenine Borowik who exited the role in August this year.

Borowik, who was in the position for five years, has since moved into the role of first assistant statistician, integrated collection and dissemination services division for the ABS.

A spokesperson for the ABS said the organisation’s assistant statistician of the technology services division, Chris Duffy, had been acting in the role since August.

The new CIO will report to the Australian statistician but the spokesperson could not comment on whether the role would maintain the same structure as previously.

According to the advertisement, the Canberra-based full-time role will head up the technology services division to ensure the ICT agenda aligns with the organisation’s business operations.

“You will ensure the ABS leverages information technology to support the major processes for statistical and administrative functions… and that the ABS has appropriate and effective security policy and practices,” the advertisement reads.

The ABS has advertised an annual salary of between $183,346 to $212,916, plus superannuation and allowances, for the role.

The successful candidate will also work to build and maintain relationships within both the ICT industry and government.

The role calls for strong ICT skills, paired with an understanding of statistics from both the ABS and other sources in order to assist clients and provide leadership.
