Here’s how Ashok Leyland’s indigenously developed telematics solution is driving vehicle health and customer experience through the product lifecycle.

The Chennai-headquartered Indian automobile manufacturing giant, Ashok Leyland, is on a digital transformation journey that has the potential to overhaul how the entire industry works. The company has developed digital solutions which will help its customers, channel partners and business functions to work more efficiently and realise more profits.

The firm has developed a telematics solution platform, i-Alert, which enables its customers to track the vehicle in real time. But what sets it apart from existing telematics applications?

Vinod G, GM-IT at Ashok Leyland explains, “The real-time vehicle health monitoring and diagnostics aids in early warnings of impending failures.”

Enhancing customer and dealer experience

It not only tracks vehicle health in real-time but also converts the raw data to meaningful insights and provides specific action points for various aspects of vehicle operations, says Vinod. “This not only aids in improving the productivity, performance and safety, but also minimises unexpected breakdown of vehicles.”

The telematics solution has a standardized user interface to support all types of vehicle platforms, across both mobile and web. It is also capable of identifying the nearest dealer or workshop and alerting the driver in case there is a service requirement.

Data, data, data

“We can generate lot of data related to operations of the vehicles. This provides insights into vehicle health, driving behavior and aids in better prediction of life for various vehicle components,” Vinod points out.

For the dealers, it is primarily aimed at improving the service revenues through enhanced service levels. “The visibility over the vehicles in real-time, vehicle health monitoring and remote diagnostics features aids in better planning and proactively addressing the issues with the vehicles,” he says.

And for the organization, it helps in designing personalized training models for the drivers and also provides insights into product design.

i-Alert is helping Ashok Leyland devise new business strategies and also redefine the existing models to operate more efficiently, he adds.
