Turkcell is a digital operator headquartered in Turkey, serving its customers all around the with its unique portfolio of digital services and solutions downloaded 178 million times in 192 countries.
The Istanbul-based company also offers corporate IT services to businesses throughout Turkey via its high-speed fiber network and team of networking, development, and management experts. Among these services is the Turkcell Cloud, a robust, VMware Cloud Verified platform based on VMware technology that is used to deliver a wide range of capabilities, including virtual data centers, business continuity, and full-service backup.
We caught up with Turkcell’s Director of Infrastructure Operations, Utku Sert, to learn more about the changing business landscape and what it means to be VMware Cloud Verified.
“We serve consumers with a unique portfolio of digital services delivered via our mobile and fixed-line networks, which includes 43,000 kilometers of fiber backbone in Turkey that is used to serve the whole country,” said Sert. “This strong, next-generation network and the experienced personnel who oversee it also enable us to provide high-quality IT services to telecom operators, multinational organizations, national corporations, and government agencies.”
Many of these offerings are delivered via the Turkcell Cloud, which includes a wide array of private, public, and hybrid cloud solutions, including infrastructure-as-a-service, backup-as-a-service, and disaster recovery-as-a-service. The company is also rolling out new SaaS offerings.
Turkcell’s cloud services are provided from seven fully redundant data centers — all of them are VMware Cloud Verified — located in Istanbul, Ankara, Kocaeli, and Izmir. Another data center will be opened in Ankara this year, and will offer not only additional redundancy, but also low-latency connections for organizations anywhere within the footprint of Turkcell’s network.
Sert notes that corporate and government customers are seeking to make their IT operations more efficient – a notion that is synonymous with the cloud – and deliver greater value and higher service levels with new offerings.
That sentiment mirror’s Turkcell’s own philosophy. From the start, its call center reflected the company’s commitment to offer fast, effective customer service at all times, while the technical team has consistently unveiled new capabilities to address customers’ evolving IT needs. This year is no exception: the Turkcell Cloud team is planning to rollout new container technologies, object storage, and platform-as-a-service offerings.
“We’ve always prided ourselves on offering service portfolios that are constantly enriched to address the evolving business landscape in the areas we serve,” Sert said.
“Turkcell’s and its partner VMware’s enduring commitment to quality in providing secure cloud services helped Turkcell achieve Cloud Verified status. We provide complete and advanced cloud capabilities with VMware Cloud Infrastructure capabilities using the latest technology. Perhaps most importantly, customers know they can be confident when moving to the Turkcell Cloud that we deliver the interoperability and capability with VMware that has come to be a hallmark of any successful digital transformation.”
