Mark Herring is a well-rounded silicon-valley executive with proven experience in taking complex technology and making it understandable to the broader audience. His deep developer roots are never far from his mind as he looks at trends and asks the tough questions on whether the technology is here to stay or just another fad.

Currently Mark is Chief Marketing Officer at InfluxData. InfluxData is the premier real-time monitoring and analytics platform provider. Customers use InfluxData’s products to deliver the visibility and insight into log, metric, IoT, and sensor data to provide an always-on single consolidated view of their data.

Mark has always been close to developer and the developer community, driving very vibrant communities in the open source Hadoop world (Hortonworks) and the Java world ( The new generation of marketing is by word of mouth and the community is key to getting the right words out to the right audience that are valued and not just marketing speak.

Before InfluxData, Mark was VP of corporate marketing and developer marketing at Hortonworks, SVP of Products at Software AG, VP of Middleware, Java and MySQL Marketing at Sun Microsystems, and VP of Marketing at Forte Software. Earlier in his career, Mark was a developer and technical support engineer for Oracle. Mark holds a B.S. Degree from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.
