Salesforce.com "Chatter" Mobile Collaboration Apps Coming Soon to BlackBerry, iOS, Android

Enterprise BlackBerry, iPhone, iPad and Android smartphone users will soon get new apps for use with Salesforce.com's "Chatter."

Business software maker Salesforce.com plans to soon release a handful of new mobile applications for its Chatter "real-time collaboration cloud" service, and the mobile apps will be available for BlackBerry and Apple iOS devices including the iPhone and iPad, as well as a variety of Google Android handsets.

Salesforce.com Chatter is a business-oriented social-networking service of sorts that lets coworkers and colleagues share business- and social-status updates, work and instantly communicate with online groups, monitor relevant feeds to stay on top of project updates/etc., and share important information and documents, among other things.

Chatter was launched just a couple of months ago in June, and the service already has some 20,000 users, according to reports, so the mobile applications should be well-received.

Specific release dates for the apps aren't yet available, though the BlackBerry and iOS versions are expected to debut first, within the coming months, with the Android app arriving sometime in early 2011.

The Salesforce.com Chatter apps will be similar to IBM's existing Lotus Quickr and Connections apps, as well as Microsoft's Communicator Mobile.

The basic version of Chatter goes for about $15 per month, per user. And you can find additional details about Chatter on the Salesforce.com website.
