In episode two of a new job-search video series, executive recruiter Martha Heller shares advice on how CIOs and IT executives can build their personal and professional brands.

Welcome to the second episode of “CIO Career Coach,” a video series I created with CIO.com and IDG.tv, the video division of CIO’s parent company, IDG.

In Episode No. 1, I talked about the signs that it is time to leave your current job. In Episode No. 2, we examine how to build your professional brand.

When thinking through how to find your next great IT leadership position, if we use the metaphor of selling a product, and you are the product, then your product needs a brand.

Your job title and company are two pieces of your brand, but there is so much more. Are you a turnaround executive? A technology guru? An operational leader? A strategist? Maybe you’re a mobility expert, a team builder or a specialist in supply chain management.

Selecting and highlighting two or three areas of professional strength are critical to building your brand. In fact, you need to know these attributes so well that you can articulate them succinctly and consistently to a variety of audiences.

Check out the video above for tips on how to build your brand, as well as how to communicate it using social media and other platforms.

Happy viewing!
