Porn Hub reveals the secret desires of iOS and Android users

The iOS vs. Android wars have been raging all over the Internet for quite a long time now. But now the Porn Hub blog has introduced a whole new aspect to the mobile platform war between Google and Apple: the porn habits of iOS and Android users.

I must admit that I didn’t even know that Porn Hub had a blog, I bumped into the post about Android and iOS users via Engadget. But once I clicked through I found a somewhat hilarious but also quite interesting comparison of the habits of Android and iOS users on the Porn Hub site.

As with many other sites, Porn Hub has found that mobile usage has exploded compared to previous years, so there’s quite a bit of data to work with in terms of the top two mobile device platforms.

…the Pornhub statisticians have decided to dig through the data and found out what it is that separates iPhone-wielding Pornhub users from our Android-loyal visitors, in terms of how they interact with the site and what kinds of content they prefer. Currently, just over 60% of our traffic comes from mobile devices, so without any further ado, let’s take a look at what makes each of these major subsets of Pornhub’s viewership tick.

Android and iOS-based users also have their own distinct tastes with regards to the types of content that they enjoy on their respective devices. To illustrate this best, our statisticians took a look at which categories earned proportionally more views from one OS group to the other.

iOS users – let that freak flag fly. This group views videos in the Bondage and Fetish categories 105% and 66% more than Android users, who appear to prefer ebony and cartoon-themed content significantly more. Android users also enjoy more full-figured women in their porn, in that they view videos in Pornhubs’s BBW category 138% more than iOS users, while iOS users like their ladies mature, as made evident by the fact that these viewers browse videos in our MILF and Mature categories 134% and 70% more than Android users.

If we’re going for efficiency here, iOS-based users get the job done faster. They tend to spend a mere 8 minutes and 40 seconds on site when they visit Pornhub and tend to reach satisfaction after just 9.8 page views. There is also an argument to be made for lasting power, which is where Android users shine. They spend a leisurely average 10:06 per visit and peak out at 10.9 page views.

Pondering the Porn Hub results about iOS and Android users

The results about content preferences surprised me. Who knew that iOS users were more into bondage than Android users? I’d have thought it was the other way around, given the masochistic tendencies demonstrated by users who buy Android devices in the first place. Ha, ha…just kidding Android users! To each his own as far as porn and mobile devices go.

The…er…efficiency result was also somewhat surprising. I wonder if it has to do with iOS devices being able to load pages faster than Android devices? Or perhaps iOS users are just busier and need to…er…get the job done quickly while on Porn Hub. I suppose we’ll never know the exact reasons behind that result, and perhaps it’s better if we don’t. There are some things I’d rather not know.

The Porn Hub blog post also covers the geographical breakdown of iOS and Android users, with more iOS users coming from the U.S., UK, Canada and Australia. More Android users hail from Brazil, India, Argentina and many other regions around the world. It doesn’t surprise me that Android is so popular in other regions since Android offers many more inexpensive mobile devices than what Apple provides with its iOS devices.

The age results didn’t surprise me at all. Both Android and iOS users of Porn Hub tend to increase in the younger demographics. By the time you hit the 55-64 and 65+ users, usage drops way down from the younger ages for those using iOS and Android devices to access Porn Hub.

Women like Porn Hub too

Another thing that surprised me was the number of women using Porn Hub. Roughly 25% of Porn Hub’s users are women, and they account for about 25.3% of Android users and 25.9% of iOS users. For some reason I had it in my head that Porn Hub would mostly attract male users, but that apparently is not the case.

Unfortunately, the Porn Hub blog post didn’t seem to break down exactly what kinds of porn women were looking at vs. men. It would have been interesting to see how they compared to men in terms of content preferences, time on the site, etc.

MotorMouth: ”Since when does what we access the internet with qualify as a “computing platform”? A phone is a communications device and accessing PornHub requires only communications. OK, decoding video requires some, small amount of computing power but even the dumbest TV can manage that and we don’t think of them as “computing platforms”, do we? When I can run 3DS Max and the full Adobe CC on my phone, it will qualify as a computing platform. Until then it will remain a communications device in my book.”

As you can tell from the selection of comments I included above, there’s no lack of feedback being posted on Engadget for that particular article. Most readers seemed to think the Porn Hub blog post was more than a little hilarious in exposing the varying habits of Android and iOS users.

Mobile devices have taken over when it comes to porn consumption

While the results regarding content preferences are more than a little funny, the amount of mobile traffic going to Porn Hub these days really stands out. It demonstrates that mobile devices have really taken over when it comes porn consumption by users of Android and iOS devices.

I suppose there’s a…er…convenience factor when it comes to smartphones, tablets, etc. when it comes to porn. But I didn’t expect a site like Porn Hub to have more than sixty percent of its users visiting via mobile devices. That’s a rather astounding figure and it shows that the glory days of laptops and desktops are already well behind us in terms of content consumption.

And I think it demonstrates clearly that any site that isn’t designed with mobile in mind will be left behind eventually. Yes, there will always be desktop and laptop users but the mobile revolution has put computers in people’s pockets and that seems to be the device people are reaching for these days for porn, particularly the younger folks.
