Teradata has introduced two new software capabilities intended to help customers operationalize Internet of Things (IoT) data. Teradata today introduced two new software services — Teradata Listener and Teradata Aster Analytics on Hadoop — aimed at helping customers operationalize Internet of Things (IoT) data. “This is about the Internet of Things coming of age,” says Chris Twogood, vice president of Product and Services Marketing for Teradata. “When people can start to analyze data at this volume, that’s where real value happens.” With the new software capabilities, Teradata aims to eliminate the complexity and latency around ingesting a massive and constant stream of data and then extracting value from it. Ready to roll with analytics Meanwhile, Teradata Aster Analytics on Hadoop provides native integration of Aster Analytics and Hadoop, making it a first-class engine within the Hadoop infrastructure. It’s an integrated analytics solution that now features a set of more than 100 business-ready analytics techniques and seven vertical industry applications that run directly on Hadoop. Text logs describing patient behavior and sensor data stream from the equipment into the manufacturer’s Hadoop data lake on a 24/7 basis. Teradata runs text analytics on the data, which provides insights to help global field service personnel improve machine uptime and extend maintenance windows. At the same time, data from the equipment manufacturing process flows into a Teradata appliance where advance analytics provide insights for improving quality and manufacturing efficiency. “Daily, we collect millions of sensor observations from our equipment, and from our engineers we receive thousands of written reports that are digitized,” Gerhard Kress, director, Analytical Services, Siemens Mobility Division, said in a statement today. “We subject the data to a variety of analytics to discover hidden patterns in order to ensure optimal equipment performance. Our partnership with Teradata has helped us predict the leading indicators for train equipment breakdown. The collection and analysis of sensor and IoT data has been integral to driving the efficiency of the rail business.” Teradata Listener is now available in beta and Twogood says it will be generally available globally in the first quarter of 2016. Teradata Aster Analytics on Hadoop will be shipped globally in the second quarter of 2016.
