How to download songs from Apple Music by using your cellular data connection
Just follow these simple steps to download songs from Apple Music with your cellular data connection:
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap on iTunes & App Store.
3. Tap on the Use Cellular Data switch to move it to the On (green) position.
You will now be able to use cellular data to download music from Apple Music. And if you change your mind, you can easily toggle the Use Cellular Data switch back to the Off position to avoid any cellular data usage.
Should Apple have cellular data off by default?
While it might be slightly annoying to have to turn on cellular data to download music from Apple Music, I think Apple probably did the right thing by not turning it on by default. Some folks like me have limited cellular data plans, and Apple Music would probably blow past those limits fairly quickly.
Thankfully it takes less than a minute to turn on cellular data if you prefer to use it to download music from Apple Music. So it’s not really a big deal that Apple has it turned off by default.
Of course, if you want to avoid using your cellular connection, you can simply download all of the songs you want from Apple Music via Wi-Fi before you leave the house. That’s probably your best bet if you want to minimize the amount of bandwidth used by Apple Music.
And then you can just use your cellular data connection if you have to have a particular song on the spur of the moment, when you aren’t near a Wi-Fi connection.
