Microsoft Corp. has released an updated version of Works Suite, its package of productivity applications aimed at home computer users, the company announced Thursday.

Works Suite 2006 includes updates to several programs, including Digital Image Standard, which now supports video, hierarchical keywords, and labels for organizing photos and video clips, Microsoft said.

The suite also adds a new tool to Money 2006 that allows users to pay multiple bills from several accounts from the software’s bill calendar.

Other improvements include a sorting tool for Encarta Encyclopedia Standard 2006 and updated map data for the U.S. and Canada in Streets & Trips Essentials 2006. Microsoft Works 8 adds a feature to overlay calendars for its iCalendar function, and Microsoft Word 2002 is the suite’s word processor.

Works Suite 2006 retails for US$99.95, of which $20 can be refunded through a mail-in rebate, Microsoft said.
