Cisco Systems Tuesday announced it will acquire SyPixx Networks for US$51 million in cash and options.

SyPixx, a privately held company, offers video surveillance software and hardware that allow existing analog video surveillance systems to operate as part of an IP network, Cisco said. The acquisition will allow Cisco customers to integrate their existing video surveillance systems into an overall physical security program, Cisco said.

SyPixx sells analog to digital video camera encoders, digital to analog video monitor decoders, analog video transmission equipment, video recording and management software and servers. The company has 27 employees.

The acquisition is expected to close in Cisco’s third quarter, which ends April 28. The SyPixx products will become part of Cisco’s Emerging Markets Technology Group.
