On Friday, voice and data network solutions provider 3Com, announced its board of directors had appointed R. Scott Murray as its new president and chief executive, effective immediately.

Murray succeeds Bruce Claflin, who has retired.  Murray will also assume Claflin’s position on 3Com’s board of directors and will soon become Chairman of Huawei-3Com, the company’s joint venture in China.

“After meeting with a number of highly qualified candidates, we found Scott extremely well suited to lead 3Com into the future,” said company Chairman, Eric Benhamou. “His ability to drive operations, grow revenue and increase profitability will be critical in accelerating the execution of 3Com’s strategy and creating shareholder value.”

Murray comes from Modus Media International, a supply chain management and hosted services provider, where he was chief executive.
