Microsoft has set a tentative release date for its third service pack for Windows XP, eWeek reports.

The date—mid-to-late 2007—is markedly later than was expected. While the company noted the date was “preliminary,” many customers and analysts, among others, are phased because that date is as much as a year later than they’d anticipated.

The release date was published on Microsoft’s Windows Lifecycle website.

The company also announced a “latter half of 2006” tentative release date for the second service pack for Windows Server 2003. This date is inline with the “preliminary””date that was expected by analysts and industry watchers.
