Marriott International joined the ever-growing list of major corporations that have reported significant losses or thefts of personal data. Marriott Vacation Club International, the company’s time-share division, announced yesterday that backup tapes containing personal records—including names, credit card accounts and Social Security numbers—of more than 200,000 customers and employees was missing from a facility in Orlando, Florida. It is unclear as yet whether the information was stolen or simply lost.

The company says it is in the process of contacting affected parties and that no one has yet reported misuse of the information. For more about the situation, check out the Washington Post story.
