Government Computer News reports that Rosita Parkes (pictured at left) will be retiring from the U.S. Energy Department as CIO on January 3, 2006. The Department has not yet announced who will succeed Parkes, who was a public servant for three decades. Gordon Errington currently serves as deputy CIO. Parkes told GCN that she’s interested in teaching bilingual education once she leaves the federal government. For more on her tenure at the Energy Department, read GCN’s article. Nirup Krishnamurthy has made the transition from one industry to another. The former CIO of United Airlines was named executive vice president and CTO of asset management services provider Northern Trust. Krishnamurthy worked for United for 15 years, having begun his tenure in the finance department in 1990. At the time he developed optimization models for airline scheduling, operations planning and aircraft maintenance. In 2003, he was promoted to CIO after having served as vice president of information services, managing director of applications development and manager of applications development. At Northern Trust, Krishnamurthy reports President of Worldwide Operations and Technology Timothy Theriault. A bunch of CIOs have contributed chapters to a new book on IT leadership titled Information Technology Leadership: Industry Insiders on the Effective Implementation and Management of IT Resources.
