French Police Fear Blogs Fueling Riots

It looks like the tried and true methods of civil unrest with banners and bullhorns are being replaced with Internet blogs and cell phones. The New York Times reports that the French web site Skyblog is host to messages inflammatory enough to warrant three separate criminal investigations and police are saying that local youths have used cell phones to coordinate arson attacks. One blog entry called on other young people to attack the nearest police station, while another blog attempted to promote arson attacks on a housing project at a particular time. The Times also stated that Skyblog belongs to the nationwide radio station Skyrock, which has four million listeners daily and claims the largest audience of any radio station among 13-to-24-year-olds.
