Futurists Unite in Seeing China Emergent

I was talking to the CIO of a southern power company during  a break after the first two sessions. She said that through other training she’s undertaken, she’s been exposed to other futurists (though Saffo didn’t want to be called that himself), and what they’re saying is all converging. That is, they’re seeing the same trends and coming up with similar outlooks. In particular, the China phenomenon looms large on the horizon. The only thing that worries her is the statistic we’ve all seen, something to the effect that there are only about 6,000 engineering grads in the United States each year, while there are about 300,000 in China. It’ll just making hiring qualified people that much more challenging.
