Pioneer, a Japanese producer of electronics, on Tuesday announced a shift in the release date of its upcoming Blu-ray DVD player in North America from June to this fall, because of issues with the product’s development, Reuters reports.

The battle between supporters of the Blu-ray disc format and the standard called HD-DVD is about to rage in the coming months, as manufacturers issue machines based on the technology they see as most likely to succeed. Pioneer has selected Blu-ray for its next-generation optical disc players.
