Matsushita Electric Industrial (Panasonic) will start manufacturing flat-panel TV sets in Brazil and Russia later this year, the company said Tuesday.Production of liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs in Russia will begin in September and be handled by an unnamed local electronics manufacturer. Panasonic will supply components from Japan to the contractor, which will assemble them into TV sets. In Brazil, the production will begin later this month and use plasma display panel screens shipped from Japan.The company hopes to sell 120,000 TV sets in Russia during the current financial year, which ends in March 2007. Of those sets, about 50,000 are expected to be produced in-country, with the rest coming from Japan.
