Lenovo Group said Monday that it has agreed to allow IBM Global Technology Services’ arm to license its ThinkVantage software for deployment on non-Lenovo PCs.The ThinkVantage software is designed to cut IT costs by automating PC support functions such as wired and wireless connectivity settings, PC desktop migration, and data recovery after a system crash or virus infection. The deal marks the first time the software is available for systems other than ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops. Under the agreement with Lenovo, which bought IBM’s PC division for US$1.25 billion last year, IBM is granted a license to six ThinkVantage client applications. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. -Shelley Solheim, IDG News Service (New York Bureau)Check out our CIO News Alerts and Tech Informer pages for more updated news coverage.
