Amazon.com is now offering nonperishable groceries, like microwave popcorn and cereal, on its website, in the online giant’s most recent attempt to expand its business reach to additional corners of the Internet, The Wall Street Journal reports.The move is a bold one, as other Web grocery retailers like Dot-com’s Webvan have failed to thrive—and filed bankruptcy in response—in the past, according to the Journal.Amazon does not presently sell perishable items because it says it can’t ship them free of charge, the Journal reports.The majority of items for sale in Amazon’s grocery store are offered only in bulk, but all of them qualify for free shipping if included within orders of $25 or more, according to the Journal.
