Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, a division of Sony, on Tuesday said it will deliver its first seven films in the high-definition Blu-ray format to retailers on June 20, Reuters reports.Sony’s rollout of the Blu-ray titles is set for the same date it plans to release a PC that can play Blu-ray disc, and Samsung Electronics also plans to simultaneously release its first publicly available Blu-ray DVD player, according to Reuters.The format battle between Sony’s Blu-ray and rival HD-DVD, which was developed by a Toshiba-led group, is just beginning, and Blu-ray’s success—or lack thereof—could have huge financial implications for the electronics giant.
