Japan’s Pioneer has filed a lawsuit against South Korea’s Samsung SDI alleging infringement of two patents related to plasma display panel (PDP) technology, it said Monday.

In question are U.S. patent 5,128,489, which covers the production process of a chemical used in plasma display panels, and U.S. patent 5,640,068, which deals with a surface discharge plasma display.

The lawsuit was filed at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas and asks the court to halt sales of Samsung SDI products that allegedly infringe on Pioneer’s patents and compensation, Pioneer said in a brief statement. Neither a copy nor further details of the lawsuit were available.

Pioneer filed the lawsuit after a year and a half of talks between the two companies broke down.
