Sanyo Electric and Taiwan’s Quanta Computer have agreed to align elements of their respective TV businesses with the creation of a new joint venture.

The new company, tentatively named Sanyo Visual Technology, will be based in Osaka and take control of development of new TV sets and purchasing of materials and components for the two companies. It will be established in October this year in time to begin operations ahead of the key year-end shopping period, they said in a statement.

Sanyo is additionally reorganizing its TV business. It will move its global TV unit headquarters to San Diego, Calif., from where it will plan strategy for all markets, including Japan. The company said the reorganization will enable it to make decisions more quickly, leading to advantages in the marketplace.
