Rumors surrounding the “iPhone”—which Apple Computer has refused to deny or confirm—continue to abound this week after Kevin Rose, founder of the popular technology news locale Digg.com, made a number of statements regarding the device, including that it will be offered without ties to a specific network, MacWorld.co.uk reports.

Analysts and writers have speculated that Apple may offer up the iPhone as early as January, and that Apple CEO Steve Jobs could unveil the device at the Cupertino, Calif.-based firm’s MacWorld conference that month. It has also been reported that Apple already ordered some 12 million iPhones from Chinese electronics manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry. Just last week, various news sources reported that Apple had filed for patent protection in August for a device that could prove to be the iPhone.

Rose described the device’s size as “small as [expletive],” and said it may include two separate batteries for power supply, according to MacWorld.co.uk.

As more and more music phones appear on the scene, manufacturers are struggling with how to provide enough battery power for users to employ both the music and phone functions for more than a few hours at a time. Two battery packs would help to address the issue, and according to Rose, Apple plans to employ one pack specifically to power the device’s phone capabilities and the other to power the music player, MacWorld.co.uk reports.

To accommodate different cell networks, the iPhone would have a slot to attach various Subscriber Identity Module cards for separate carriers, according to MacWorld.co.uk.

Rose also said Apple will offer a 4GB iPhone for $249 and a higher-end 8GB model that will sell for $449, MacWorld.co.uk reports.

Rose’s comments can be seen on a YouTube video clip here.
