Dell has set up its fourth customer support center in Gurgaon, India. The new center is expected to employ about 1,000 people by the end of this year, Dell said Friday.Dell is already supporting customers in the United States and Europe from a temporary facility in Gurgaon. The company’s other customer support centers in India are in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chandigarh. Multinational and local companies that have set up software development or services operations in India typically have centers in multiple locations to tap local pools of talent. Having centers in multiple locations also helps these companies keep their operations running when there are local disruptions, such as a recent strike in Bangalore. Dell, of Round Rock, Texas, is piloting new support strategies in Gurgaon that it hopes to replicate around the world, it said. Dell announced plans in March to double the number of staff employed in India over the next three years to about 20,000, mostly in customer support staff. The company has also set up a product design center in Bangalore, and has announced plans to assemble computers for the local market next year in the port city of Chennai, in south India.-John Ribeiro, IDG News Service (Bangalore Bureau) Related Link: Dell to Double Outsource Staff in IndiaCheck out our CIO News Alerts and Tech Informer pages for more updated news coverage.
