Apple Computer, maker of the ultra-popular iPod, on Friday said that it will add a red 8GB iPod nano to its digital media player lineup, and that it will donate $10 from every purchase of the device to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa, Reuters reports.

The 8GB iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED is the second iPod the Cupertino, Calif.-based firm offers as part of the (PRODUCT) RED initiative, under which retailers—including the Gap, Motorola and Giorgio Armani—donate a portion of their proceeds to combat the AIDS epidemic in Africa. In October, the firm announced that it would sell a 4GB red iPod nano, and celebrities including U2 front man Bono and Oprah Winfrey promoted the device via a special talk show segment and a Chicago shopping spree.

The newly announced iPod nano will retail for $250, according to Reuters, and it can hold roughly 2,000 songs and 25,000 photos.

Apple recently released its second-generation iPod nanos, which also come in a variety of additional colors, though it doesn’t donate any portion of those products’ sales to charity.

In related news, Apple is also expected to start selling its second-generation iPod shuffle, the smallest digital media player it offers, on Friday.
