Business transformation, compliance with government regulations, quality improvement programs and the move to service-oriented architecture are all driving corporate spending on business process management (BPM) suites. These integrated packages of software tools support process improvement activities such as process analysis, design, modeling and simulation, and the coordination of sequences of steps and tasks involved in a process. Sales of BPM suites are growing at more than 20 percent annually, according to Forrester Research. Forrester expects the BPM suite market to more than double over four years from $1.2 billion in 2005 to $2.7 billion in 2009.

The following vendors, which Gartner included in its “2006 Magic Quadrant for Business Process Management Suites,” are poised to capitalize on that growth:

  • Adobe
  • Appian
  • Axway
  • CA
  • FileNet
  • Fuego (acquired by BEA Systems)
  • Fujitsu
  • Global360
  • Graham Technology
  • IBM
  • Lombardi
  • Metastorm
  • Pegasystems
  • Savvion
  • Singularity
  • Tibco Software
  • Ultimus
