MySpace, the uber-popular social networking site owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., on Monday began offering Cingular Wireless customers access to a mobile version of its service for $2.99 per month, Bloomberg News reports via Boston.com. BlackJack With MySpace Subscribers to MySpace Mobile will be able to post photos and add new friends, as well as edit and create new blog entries via their handhelds, Cingular said, according to Bloomberg.Los Angeles, Calif.-based MySpace is currently working to increase its revenue and build awareness in locales outside the United States, and the new mobile partnership is the latest move in this strategy, Bloomberg reports. The social networking site recently launched both German and Japanese versions of its service, according to Bloomberg. Cingular hopes to increase its subscriber base via the exclusive agreement with MySpace by drawing users who want constant access to their MySpace accounts, even while on the go.Amit Kapur, MySpace vice president of business development, said the “exclusive” deal will remain so throughout 2006 and into 2007. However, the company plans to make additional deals with U.S. wireless carriers next year, and it eventually wants to offer international mobile access, according to Bloomberg. MySpace made its first foray into the mobile space earlier this year when it announced a deal with Helio, another wireless carrier, Bloomberg reports.Cingular Wireless, the United States’ leading wireless carrier, is a joint venture between AT&T and BellSouth. Last spring, AT&T said it would purchase BellSouth for $67 billion in stock, and when that transaction is finalized it will gain full ownership of Cingular, according to Bloomberg.
