Autodesk and Parametric Technology (PTC) have agreed to make their CAD software, used in the manufacturing and engineering industries, interoperate better.Under the agreement, announced Monday, PTC will use Autodesk’s RealDWG software development toolkit to make PTC software interoperate with Autodesk’s Inventor 3D and AutoCad software.Autodesk will use PTC’s Granite 3D modeling and interoperability kernel to allow for integration between Autodesk software and Pro/Engineer, PTC’s 3-D CAD application. The two companies said an increasing number of manufacturers run multi-CAD environments and are under pressure to reduce costs and move products faster to market. The agreement will help decrease the costs of running those environments and enable faster, out-of-the-box integration, they said. -Jeremy Kirk, IDG News Service (London Bureau)Check out our CIO News Alerts and Tech Informer pages for more updated news coverage.
